Katherine A. Lowry graduated from Clemson University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Psychology. She later graduated from the University of Miami in 2005 with a Master of Science in Education with an emphasis in Mental Health Counseling. She also graduated from the English Nanny and Governess School and is a Certified Professional Governess. She currently works as a Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselor (License number MH 9570), an Ohio Professional Clinical Counselor (License number E.1100007), and a Certified Polygraph examiner in private practice. Katherine has experience with the court system, having worked directly with the Department of Children and Families and the Department of Corrections in the past. She was a Guardian Ad Litem for four years and has done group therapy with parenting, substance abuse, anger management, theft, domestic violence and sexual offenders.
Currently, Katherine sees children (ages 10 and up), adolescents and adults in individual, couples and family therapy. She works primarily with depression, anxiety, communication skill building, anger management, parenting, sexual and substance abuse addictions, sexual trauma, school and behavioral issues, and gender issues. In 2013 she became a Florida board approved Certified Transgender Care Therapist and helps the Transgender population with their gender identity issues. Recently, Katherine completed her first set of training for EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and is currently performing this at her practice.
Katherine has memberships with the American Counseling Assoc. (ACA), National Certified Counselors (NCC), World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (NAMI), Assoc. for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Issues in Counseling (LGBTIC), International Assoc. of Addiction and Offender Counseling (IAAPC), and the Assoc. for Adult Development and Aging (AADA).
