Michael began his counseling career in private practice and understands that in life we at times find ourselves, or our loved ones, feeling stuck, confused, or even more disheartening, without hope! With over 20 years of experience in counseling Michael is a full-time clinical therapist here at Kenneth M. Adams & Associates in Royal Oak, MI; Corporate Trainer and conference speaker with AIL in Troy, MI; Adjunct Professor at Siena Heights University teaching in the graduate college in the field of counseling and human development.; and was the team chaplain for the Detroit Pistons and Palace Entertainment for four seasons. Holding dual master’s Degrees, from Siena Heights University and Kentucky Christian University Michael uses a variety of counseling methods and modalities to reach the goals established by each client.
Michael draws from this unique and rich experience to focus his time on helping people with restorative and therapeutic healing. As a CSAT (Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist) he uses a medical model through IITAP (International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals) when dealing with Out of Control Sexual Behavior (OCSB). Michael does marriage therapy and is certified in EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy), Prepare & Enrich along with being Gottman trained. He is also trained in administering the Taylor-Johnson Temperament Analysis for both relational and personal dynamics.
Michael is involved and works with the LGBT community in dealing with both the common and unique aspects of human issues, personal affect, relationships and marriage. Mike developed and leads the “No More Porn” process group which focuses on the positive aspects of healthy sex while at the same time addresses the sometimes-destructive nature of high speed internet pornography.
Michael is a counselor with the Judge and Lawyers Assistance Program (LJAP) with the State Bar of Michigan. Michael also is a consultant for the Macomb County Friend of the Court. Michael approaches each individual as unique and his treatment approach is tailored to the specific needs of his client/patient. Through a collaborative, therapeutic relationship, improving quality of life, from the client/patient perspective is his goal.
Michael believes his goal is to help individuals develop personal strategies for healing, health and hope. Clinically, Michael approaches counseling from a CBT, EFT and REBT approach taking both a person-centered and systems approach to therapy, placing value on understanding the individuals’ needs and goals for treatment.
